30 days to a better love life online dating challenge. Week 3: better first dates

Week Three: Better First Dates—Take Initiative!

This week, we’re stepping out of our comfort zones and into the realm of action. You’ve gained clarity on your desires and refined your online presence – now it’s time to connect with others and explore the potential for deeper connections. Embrace the courage to initiate, the wisdom to communicate authentically, and the grace to navigate the dating landscape with an open and empowered heart.

You can download the pages for this week here or just get started with the daily prompts below.

Day 15: Get to the Date!

You’ve put in the work to prepare yourself for fulfilling connections, and now it’s time to take the leap and pursue those opportunities. Whether it’s accepting a date invitation or gathering the courage to ask someone out, remember that taking initiative is an act of self-empowerment.

  • Journal Prompt: What insecurities, fears, or beliefs do I have about making the first move? Is there a reason I shouldn’t take the initiative?
  • Exercise: “What Ifs” – List the things you’re afraid of—your “what ifs”. Then, write a realistic response to counterthought to that “what if”.

By taking initiative, you’re not only opening yourself up to new possibilities but also demonstrating confidence and genuine interest, qualities that are truly magnetic in the dating world.

Day 16: Conversation Starters that Show Compatibility

Moving beyond surface-level conversations is key to discovering deeper connections. Thought-provoking questions can reveal shared values, spark meaningful discussions, and help you assess compatibility with a potential partner.

  • Journal Prompt: What do you really want to discover about your dates? What kind of questions can you ask to learn more than the usual small talk?
  • Exercise: “Conversation Starters Brainstorm” – List some questions you can ask to go beyond small talk and delve into deeper topics on a first date.

By engaging in authentic and meaningful conversations, you’ll create opportunities to connect with others on a deeper level and discover shared interests and values.

Day 17: Protect Your Energy

Dating can be an emotional rollercoaster, and it’s essential to protect your energy throughout the journey. Setting boundaries, saying “no” to situations that drain you, and prioritizing self-care are crucial for maintaining a healthy and balanced dating life.

  • Exercise: “Energy Draining List” – What drains your energy on dates? Create a list of these energy drainers.
  • Journal Prompt: Look at your list above. How can you shield yourself from these types of interactions?

By prioritizing your well-being, you’ll create a more sustainable and enjoyable dating experience, allowing you to approach each connection with clarity and confidence.

Day 18: Show Up With Confidence

Confidence is magnetic, and it starts with embracing your authentic self. Recognizing your strengths, celebrating your unique qualities, and approaching dating with self-assuredness can make all the difference in attracting fulfilling connections.

  • Journal Prompt: What makes me confident on a date? How can I make sure this shows up on my dates?
  • Exercise: “Show Up With Confidence” – Create a checklist of things that make you feel confident when going on dates. Refer back to this checklist when you’re getting ready for a date.

By cultivating inner confidence, you’ll radiate an attractive energy that draws others towards you and allows you to embrace dating with authenticity and self-worth.

Day 19: Better First Dates Requires Patience

Finding the right person takes time, and cultivating patience is essential for navigating the dating journey with grace and ease. Trust that the universe is unfolding as it should, and focus on enjoying the process of connecting with others and learning about yourself along the way.

  • Journal Prompt: How do you typically respond when things don’t go as planned in your dating life? How can you cultivate more patience and trust in the process?
  • Exercise: “Meditating on Patience”—Take a moment to stop and think about the following:
    • A bad partner is worse than no partner at all.
    • Dating is a process, not a race.
    • It takes time to build genuine connection and intimacy.
    • People show their true colors over time.
    • Impatience can lead to misinterpreting signals.
    • Patience allows you to heal from past hurts.
    • Patience can help you avoid repeating past mistakes.
    • Patience allows you to enjoy the journey.
    • Patience ultimately leads to more fulfilling relationships.
    • It only takes one person.
  • Do any of these speak to you? Are there any that help you remain patient? Copy it down, or find your own quote from elsewhere.

By embracing patience, you’ll release the pressure of needing to control the outcome, allowing you to enjoy the journey and embrace the unexpected detours that often lead to beautiful destinations.

Day 20: Letting Go of Expectations

Rigid expectations can create disappointment and hinder your ability to see the potential in unexpected connections. Releasing the need to control the outcome and embracing the unknown can open you up to a world of possibilities.

  • Journal Prompt: What expectations do you have about dating and relationships? Are they serving you, or are they creating unnecessary pressure?
  • Exercise: “Sources of Expectations” – Which family, friends, influencers, or other media sources are you getting your ideas about what your dating life should be like? Are these expectations realistic, idealistic, or cynical?

By letting go of rigid expectations, you’ll create space for serendipity and allow yourself to be surprised by the beautiful and unexpected ways that love can manifest.

Day 21: Show Up With Kindness

Kindness is a powerful force that can transform any interaction. Approaching dating with compassion, empathy, and genuine care for others creates a positive and inviting space for connection.

  • Journal Prompt: How can you show up with more kindness in your dating life? How can you extend compassion to yourself and others throughout the process?
  • Exercise: “Setting Boundaries with Kindness” – In dating, there are many scenarios where it’s necessary to set boundaries (e.g., declining to do an activity, ending a date early, saying no to a second date). Choose a scenario and write out a short script to communicate your boundaries in a kind but firm way.

By leading with kindness, you’ll create a more positive and fulfilling dating experience for yourself and others, fostering genuine connections and attracting the kind of love you deserve.

End of Week Three

As you conclude Week Three, take a moment to acknowledge the courage and vulnerability you’ve demonstrated in taking initiative, sparking conversations, and protecting your energy. You’ve embraced new experiences, connected with others on a deeper level, and learned to navigate the dating landscape with greater confidence and self-awareness. Now, as you transition into Week Four, prepare to integrate these experiences and reflect on the valuable lessons you’ve gathered along the way. Get ready to refine your approach, release what no longer serves you, and step forward with renewed clarity and intention on your journey to a more fulfilling love life.
